Reading in school -

In Team 4, we have a 30 minute Reading Plus session 3x a week. This supports students' silent reading fluency, comprehension and vocabluary - something that works well alongside Word Aware in the classroom. Children can access their Reading Plus account at home: follow the link on the Useful Links tab.

All children have a guided reading session daily. In these sessions, we practise use of our VIPERS (comprehension skills) in small groups alongside independent and shared reading.

Reading at home -

Children are expected to bring their reading diary to school adily - this ensures that all reading activites can be recorded both at home and in school. We encourage all children to read 5 times throughout the week at home. This will support both their confidence and fluency.

Our class novel -

'Twelve-year-old Matthew is trapped in his bedroom by crippling OCD, spending most of his time staring out of his window as the inhabitants of Chestnut Close go about their business. Until the day he is the last person to see his next door neighbour's toddler, Teddy, before he goes missing. Matthew must turn detective and unravel the mystery of Teddy's disappearance - with the help of a brilliant cast of supporting characters.'
